In today’s episode, we dive into the philosophy behind Domaine Belargus — exploring why Chenin has been under the radar for so long, what needs to be explored in the Loire Valley and some predictions for the region's future. Whether you’re a wine enthusiast or just curious, this video will give you a fresh perspective on the Loire Valley.
Key Takeaways:
Chenin Blanc is in a position to rival the great Burgundy right now
Loire Valley is immensely diverse with terroirs and grape varieties
The future of the region will definitely be an interesting one
Founded in 2018 and based in Anjou, Domaine Belargus has quickly shot to the top of the fine wine scene. The first releases hit in 2021, right in the middle of the pandemic, and were already turning heads. Yohan Castaing from Decanter even said, “Remember this name, as its production should meet with resounding critical success in the coming years.” And he wasn’t wrong. The wines have since earned glowing praise from Wine Spectator and Wine Advocate, with Stephan Reinhardt calling it "one of the most spectacular new entries" in the publication’s history. But that’s just the start. Ivan Massonnat isn’t just focused on his wines; he’s got big plans for the entire region.
